Forebay Aquatic Center

The Forebay Aquatic Center currently offers sailing classes, youth programs, summer camps, kayaking classes, moonlight paddle excursions and several other courses. We also have a number of canoes, variety of kayaks and handful of sailboats available for rental(a certain level of competency must be demonstrated to rent sailboats).

Camps

SAILING CAMP

This is our first camp focusing on sailing and is designed for those who wish to develop advanced sailing skills. Each participant will learn knots, sailing theory, boat handling, docking, sail trim and capsize recovery in a variety of different types of sailboats. Each participant will be given a test at the end of the week. Passing the test will entitle students to rent sailboats at the Aquatic Center.

YOUTH AQUATIC CAMP

The Forebay Aquatic Center Youth Camp is the only one of its kind north of Sacramento. Our 5 day aquatic camp is designed for youth who have little or no experience with water sports. Each participant will have the opportunity to develop skills in a variety of water sports including: kayaking, canoeing and sailing. Water safety will be taught, and all children will be supervised by certified lifeguards. Each camper should feel comfortable with the water and will be required to take a basic swimming test to participate in this program. This is exactly what youth need to get out of the house and enjoy what the outdoors has to offer. Space is limited, so sign up today and help your kids make the most of their summer.

GUPPY CAMP

For those kids that are too young to be on the water all day long, our guppy camp is the perfect solution. This is similar to your youth camp, but is targeted at children under 8 years old who have more needs than older kids. It will include minor water and land activities, as well as a variety of games. Only going for half the day, kids can return home and get their rest before the next days activities begin. Safety is stressed, and all children are supervised by certified lifeguards.

Paddling Courses

INTRODUCTION TO CANOEING

One of America's oldest water pastimes, canoeing can be a relaxing day on the lake or a challenging adventure. Designed for beginners, this course will teach proper entry, exit, boat care, basic rescue, and paddling techniques. With this course, you will be faster, more efficient, and more maneuverable on the water. Paddling in circles will be a thing of the past! All equipment is included in this amazingly low price, so sign up today and begin a hobby that will last a lifetime.

INTRODUCTION TO SIT-ON-TOP KAYAKING

The lake kayak, both more maneuverable and faster than a canoe, is the latest way to enjoy a day on the lake. With their amazing control and ability to be powered by one person, kayaking is one of the newest sports to reach the north valley. Our instructors will teach you all you need to know to be competent in sit-on-top kayaking. In our 2 hour course, you will learn proper paddle strokes, smooth tracking, how to enter a kayak from deep water, and how to paddle with minimum effort. This is not only a great way to have fun, but is also an amazing way to get in shape. All equipment included.

SUNSET/MOONLIGHT PADDLE

Join the F.A.C. for a fun and relaxing time on the lake, this voyage under the stars is as romantic as it is exciting. Come paddle the length of the North Forebay while taking in the beautiful sunset and full moon (provided the moon is on time). We will experience the Forebay nightlife, including fruit bats, crickets, warm breezes, and the beautiful lights of Oroville reflecting off the water. No experience necessary, so come and enjoy!

INTRO TO SEA KAYAK

One of the most exciting and versatile paddle sports, sea kayaking offers you the chance to explore inland waters, and with enough training, the open sea! This introductory course takes place on the Forebay where the currents are calm and participants can gain the basic skills for safe inland navigation. Our focus will be boat care, proper entry & exit, paddling technique and water safety. We are also proud to offer this training with our fleet of state of the art Necky kayaks.

Sailing Seminars

INTRODUCTION TO SAILING

Ever wondered what it would be like to learn to sail, but never had the chance? Here's your opportunity. This 15-hour class is designed for those with little or no sailing experience or as a refresher course for those who have not recently sailed. The course covers boating safety, knots, rigging and sailing theory. On the water skills such as boat handling, docking, sail trim and capsize recovery will also be taught. Both fun and challenging, this course will serve as your first step towards becoming a skilled sailor. Upon successful completion, you will be able to rent sailboats right here at the F.A.C. for an amazingly low price.

Rules & Guidelines for Rentals

The Forebay Aquatic Center rents a variety of outdoor products at exceptional prices. In order to rent, you must leave a credit card number and drivers license, or a set of keys. In the case that equipment is not returned, your credit card will be billed the replacement amount of the rented item.

All Rental rates are based on one hour of use.
